Our journey

The Bass Museum opened in 1977 to celebrate the bicentenary of the founding of that company. It was renamed the Coors Visitor Centre in 2003 and the decision was taken to close in 2008. Following extensive work by the local MP and a task group it was subsequently reopened in 2010 as the National Brewery Centre and run by a third party. The task group became the National Brewery Heritage Trust and registered as a Charity in July 2012. Initial funding support was provided by the Burton Civic Society and the Campaign for Real Ale.

Between 2012 and 2022, it was run by a board of volunteer trustees with the aim to help protect, preserve and promote the contents of the National Brewery Centre. In October 2022 the National Brewery Centre closed to the public. Since that time Trust has been working with Molson Coors, who own the majority of the Archives and Artefacts, and East Staffordshire Borough Council, to ensure that suitable long-term home is found for these items.
